Englisch lernen bzw. auffrischen?! "No Problem" mit einem Sprachkurs von Languagelab in der virtuellen Welt Second Life®!

Der beste Weg eine Sprache zu lernen ist es, in Kontakt mit Muttersprachlern zu kommen. Diese stellt eine wirklichkeitsgetreue Nachbildung einer Großstadt inklusive Hotels, Flughäfen, Restaurants, Bars und Cafés, Shops und Nachtclubs dar. Hier muss man sich beim Erlernen einer Sprache keine Beispielsituationen mehr vorstellen, sondern trifft sich direkt an dem entsprechenden Ort.

Man bucht Blöcke von vier bzw. acht Kursen über Grammatik, Aussprache, Unterhaltung, Vokabeltrainer und so weiter. Zusätzlich kann man so oft und lange man will in der virtuellen Stadt seine Community treffen.

The best way to practice a language is to talk to native speakers. So Languagelab has found an ideal place for it: the 3-D online world of Second Life®, where people from all over the world meet via their avatars (your virtual representative) and communicate over voice or chat with each other. By having conversations with qualified instructors you can improve your English dramatically, easily, and quickly. Languagelab offers different activities in its specially developed virtual city, called "English City".

This realistic reproduction of a large city includes hotels, homes, offices, an airport, a restaurant, bars, shops, galleries, and night clubs. When you are in the city talking to the instructors and other students, you don't need to imagine what it’s like to be in a restaurant ordering food - you can practice doing it for real. And you can practice your English every day in realistic situations.

Languagelab works in the following way:

Depending on your plan, you book blocks of four or eight classes per month. The classes help with conversational skills, pronunciation, grammar, business English, exam preparation and much more. Recently, we met a cool guy from California named Hastur Pieterson, who is an enthusiastic creator of field recordings. He sent us his press release, of which we would like to inform you.


Acoustic Alchemy Announces German Atmospheres

September 1st, 2009 - Acoustic Alchemy Sound Solutions, the leading provider of high quality soundscape products and services, today announced a massive new product release. Ninety-five new real world audio recordings from Germany are now available to the public.

Hastur Pierterson and Velma Aldwych recently traveled to Germany to attend the Facets of Virtual Environments conference in Berlin.

During the twelve day stay, Hastur took the opportunity to record as much audio as possible in Berlin and the surrounding areas. The resulting ninety-five Atmosphere Orbs are an amazing mix of both urban and natural backgrounds.

“This was a great opportunity to bring more sound recordings into virtual environments from real world locations. Soundscapes are a very critical and often overlooked element when developing a unique and memorable venue in Second Life.”, said Hastur Pierterson. “In the last year we have made over one hundred recordings up and down the California coast, Nevada, and Arizona. Germany is a perfect destination for our latest expansion of field recordings.”

“We coordinated with Jan Northoff (aka January Lightfoot in SL) and Tobias Neisecke, the founders of YOUin3D.com and creators of the famous BERLINin3D sims, to identify specific locations around Berlin that were mirrored in the virtual world and then bring those soundscapes into Second Life.”

“It did not matter which direction we walked or which building we entered. Every place we went had a wonderfully unique audible background. Train stations, subways, museums, markets, cathedrals, restaurants, city parks, and busy street corners. I had to empty the digital recorders every evening to keep enough free space available for the next day.”

The MACHINIMA AWARD 2009 will be awarding one of the largest Prize Money ever given out in Second Life®!

About the MACHINIMA AWARD 2009

The Machinima Artist Guild (M.A.G.) is an association of Second Life® users who produce Animation Films (Machinimas) in virtual worlds. Cisko Vandeverre is Initiator and Organizer of the MACHINIMA AWARD. The best Machinima Films in 5 different categories are being sought - ART, DRAMA, FUN, LOVE, and NEWBIE. The initial prize money of 250,000L$ has been generously underwritten with the co-operation of 5 sponsors: Dutch Exchange B.V., SECOND INTEREST AG, theDOgroup, virtyou GmbH, and YOUin3D.com GmbH.

The competition is open to all registered members of the M.A.G. One film submission per person is allowed. Entry fee is 2,500L$. This fee will be added to the prize money bank, meaning the more people who enter the competition, the higher the award prize money will be!

Award Prize Money will be allocated as follows:

Total Award Prize Money will be divided into fifths, with each category receiving one-fifth. First Prize Winner within each category will receive 50% of that prize money. Second Prize Winner will receive 30%. Third Prize Winner will receive 20%. The current amount of the Award Prize is:

Each film submitted for competition will first go through an online preliminary selection, which will determine the top 5 films for each category. These 5 films will then be posted on their Sponsor SIM, and during this time (October 12, 2009 through October 16, 2009) will be available for screening and voting on by the general public.

On October 17, 2009 the award ceremony takes place in newBERLIN in Second Life®, where the winners of the five catagories will be announced and the prize money will be handed over. Additionally, the event will be broadcasted to real New York and Berlin.

How do I submit a film?

1. If you are not a M.A.G. member, go to the Machinima Artist Guild, and register.

2. Then send the link with your film via e-mail to Cisko Vandeverre, along with the Title Name, Director's Name, Synopsis and Category in which you want your film to compete.

3. After approval, the Entry Fee of 2,500L$ is due and payable at a "Pay System", which are located in each of the 5 Sponsor SIMs.

4. Closing Date for Entries is September 27, 2009.

Über den MACHINIMA AWARD 2009

Die Machinima Artist Guild (M.A.G) ist eine offene Vereinigung von Second Life®-Usern, die in dieser Virtuellen Welt Animations Filme (Machinimas) produzieren. Unter den Mitgliedern hat nun Cisko Vandeverre den MACHINIMA AWARD 2009 ausgerufen. Gesucht wird der beste Machinima-Film aus jeweils 5 Kategorien FUN, LOVE, NEWBIE, ART und DRAMA. Das hohe Preisgeld von 250.000 L$ konnte mit Hilfe von 5 Sponsoren zur Verfügung gestellt werden (Dutch Exchange B.V., SECOND INTEREST AG, theDOgroup, virtyou GmbH, YOUin3D.com GmbH).

Am Wettbewerb kann Jeder mitmachen, der bei der M.A.G registriert ist. Pro Person wird jeweils nur ein Video akzeptiert. Dabei wird eine Teilnahmegebühr von 2.500L$ fällig, wobei dieser zu 100% in das Preisgeld von bereits 250.000 L$ einfließt. D.h. je mehr Teilnehmer mitmachen, desto höher steigt das Preisgeld und desto größer ist der finale Gewinn!

Das Preisgeld wird folgendermaßen verrechnet:

Jede Kategorie bekommt ein Fünftel des Preisgeldes. Der Gewinner einer Kategorie erhält 50%, der Zweite 30% und der Dritte 20% des Preisgeldes der Kategorie. Die aktuelle Höhe des Preisgeldes beträgt:

Die eingeschickten Machinima-Filme durchlaufen zuerst eine Vorauswahl innerhalb der M.A.G, in der die 5 besten Filme aus jeder Kategorie bestimmt werden. Anschließend sind die Filme der jeweiligen Kategorie zwischen dem 12.10. und 16.10. in Second Life® auf dem Land des jeweiligen Sponsors zu sehen. Hier erhält jeder Second Life-Nutzer die Möglichkeit, unter diesen Filmen seinen Favoriten auszuwählen.

3. Für den Wettbewerb ist eine Teilnahmegebühr von 2.500L$ notwendig, der an einem "Pay-System" in einer der 5 Inworld-Locations einzuzahlen ist.
