Friends, music, shopping, culture, city life - Germany in 3D

Gepostet von Clare Linden am 31.07.2009 08:09:07

Things are definitely buzzing in Berlin, Frankfurt, Koln, Koblenz and Munich - in Second Life that is! Last week we wrote about a sneak preview of Germany in 3D and promised a little more information about this community inspired project. The teams behind some of the major German communities inworld wanted to provide a focus for German speaking Residents and an opportunity to have fun, explore new places and discover new things in the virtual world.

There are many active clubs, music performances and fun things to do, explore the city builds to learn more about the architecture, the culture and city life. For new German speaking Residents there is a lot of help at hand including an area in the centre of the build where a group of Second Life mentors have spent the last few months creating a help area in the German language to welcome and help newcomers to the Second Life experience. Germany in 3D also has participants from the world of Education, fascinating projects around language learning, science, business and technology, a place where students, staff and teachers can explore the possiblities of virtual worlds.

To find out more about Germany in 3D go to: http://germanyin3d.com

There will be a Grand Opening of the 22 sims on Saturday 1st August begining at 10am SLT

Machinima about Berlin in Second Life® has been viewed 15000 times

We uploaded a promotional video on YouTube about BERLINin3D (also known as newBERLIN) 6 month ago. We can´t believe, that it had 15.000 viewers so far.
Unfortunately, the machinima is only in German, but we are planing to translate it into other languages.
If you want to help us and may translate the clip in any language, feel free to contact us...

E-Learning Arbeitskreis in Second Life®

Zweites E-Learning Arbeitskreis-Treffen

Am Donnerstag, den 23.07.2009 laden wir zum 2. E-Learning-Arbeitskreis in Second Lif

Online participation in FaVE 2009 International Conference on Facets of Virtual Environments

As a Second Life® Gold Solution Provider, YOUin3D.com GmbH is the co-operation partner for broadcasting and the implementation of the following event to Second Life®:

FaVE 2009 International Conference on Facets of Virtual Environments

Berlin, Germany, July 27-29, 2009
or
Virtually in Second Life®, July 27-28, 2009.

In recent years, persistent multi-user virtual environments (VE) have come into widespread use on the Internet. As more and more people spend more and more time in these environments, it is becoming obvious that this technology is not merely another medium. Rather, these systems have become sophisticated enough to be considered by their users as actual worlds. Alongside these virtual worlds, emergent effects such as social networking, online economies, virtual businesses and online culture are appearing.
While currently most of the major virtual environments extant online are games such as World of Warcraft®, various non-game applications exist and are being developed. These range from classical virtual worlds (e.g. Second Life®) to eLearning applications and other serious games. We expect that within a few years time, virtual environments will see pervasive usage similar to the Internet. This forecast raises many exciting challenges and questions, such as future virtual environments supporting millions of users simultaneously, the status of virtual property, or the phenomenon of increasingly close-knit online communities.
Against this background, it is surprising that many of the relevant research topics are still poorly developed. The FaVE conference seeks to address this deficit and provide a venue to research related to the many facets of persistent virtual environments. We therefore welcome diverse contributions covering the entire range of subjects around the vision of present and future persistent virtual environments. This includes both the underlying technology and the resulting, emergent aspects. As such, FaVE is an interdisciplinary academic conference connecting lawyers, engineers, and social scientists.
The conference will last three days, of which two days will consist of presentations and discussions and the third day will be workshops.

Register here to follow a broadcast of the first two conference days (July 27- 28) virtually in Second Life®:

We, and 1.000.000 others logged in to Second Life® in the last 30 days

"Does Anybody still use Second Life®?" asked Techcrunch in an article on July 2, 2009.

Yes, we do! And we are not all alone: "First of all, you may be wondering if anyone is still using Second Life at all. The answer is yes, and users are very active on there. During the past 30 days, one million users logged in, according to Second Life’s own statistics. In average time spent per user per week, Second Life in fact trounces all other MMORPGs, including World of Warcraft and Civilization IV. In another testament to the service’s apparent stickiness, the number of hours users spend on Second Life has been increasing steadily and is currently at historic highs, totaling approximately 124 million hours in the first quarter of this year."

Never used Second Life® before?! Time to get an account, it´s free and easy to join! Register now and meet us in newBERLIN:

Virtual tourist group was cordially received by newBERLIN "mayor"

On Sunday May 17, Janita Collins and Esme Qunhua lead a tour of: Second Cities.
Esme about the tour: "While much of the landscape of SL is decidedly not urban, there are cities. We will explore some replicas/homages to real life cities. Bring your walking shoes and your curiosity."

They started their tour in our city and January Lightfoot, the "mayor" of newBERLIN, gave them a guided tour through the virtual Berlin.
Esme after the tour: "Thank you so much. My group from ISTE loved your tour and meeting with January Lightfoot and his assistance Maike Hoorenbeek :-) Your use of Second Life was so different from anything we have come upon. It was quite exciting."

Richard Wagner: "Ring-Studie 01: Rheingold"

Berlin, Remise
Hannoversche Str. 3, 10115 Berlin
Dienstag, 05.Mai 2009, 19 Uhr
-Eintritt frei-

Regie: Johanna Dombois
Machinima-Produktion / Consulting Virtuelle Welten: YOUin3D.com GmbH
Real Life Kamera, Schnitt: Christian Asbach

Wagner mit Second Life, Second Life mit Wagner

O-Ton Wagner: "Kinder, schafft Neues!" > Schaffen wir also Neues!
